New track opens for runners at Pennsauken park

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A brand new, quarter-mile track is now open at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken. It's the first part of a plan to revitalize parks throughout Camden County.

Freshly installed, bright green grass and beautiful new five-lane orange track have completely changed the look at Jack Curtis Stadium.

Patrick Rodio with the 856 Runners Group said this is a great addition to the park.

"Track looks amazing, the stands look amazing," Rodio expressed. "It's great because ... we’ll run the Cooper loop on a lot of days, and to be able to include the track is a great feature.”

Camden County has dedicated $100 million to improving 24 parks from Camden to Winslow Township.

County Commissioner Jeff Nash said the county's goal is to give people more places to enjoy quality time without it costing them money.

"The track is used by tens of thousands of people. The infield is used for frisbee and recreational activities and is the stadium for the county concert series," he described.

"There's something for everyone in this park, and this track is just an extra beautiful amenity to the park system."

"It’s gonna bring people out, it’s gonna make them want to at least walk and maybe get some runners out of it," said Rodio. "I think it'll get some kids out here."
