PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 35-year-old Bucks County man will spend up to 40 years in prison for raping a child.
The Bucks County DA's office says the investigation into 35-year-old Nicholas Hummel started in May of 2022, when a then-13-year-old told her school counselor he had been sexually assaulting her.
An investigation found Hummel had been sexually assaulting her since 2018, and had raped her just days before she had reported it to her counselor.
"The defendant callously and repeatedly violated her trust in him by sexually abusing her for years," said prosecutor Mary Kate Kohler.
"He violated the trust that the community had in him by holding himself out to be an upstanding member of society. When behind closed doors, he was a monster."
Hummel, from Richland Township, pleaded guilty in March to several charges including rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault of a child. He is sentenced to 18 to 40 years in state prison and is ordered to undergo sex offender treatment while there.
Kohler spoke highly of her client.
"This is not the end of her story. I am hopeful that she will continue to heal and not be defined by this horrible time in her life," Kohler said.
"This young woman has shown tremendous courage and strength in coming forward in detailing her horrific abuse at the hands of the defendant. This is not an easy thing to do."
