SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — It could be a contentious four years as Democrats in New Jersey and other blue states are vowing to fight for their values throughout Donald Trump’s second term as president. Both the governor and the state attorney general say they won’t back down.

New Jersey will be among the states where political rubber hits the road, with battles fought in court rooms and in the press likely. Democrats in states like New Jersey vow to defend the rights of immigrants, women seeking abortion and transgender Americans.

A huge battle could be brewing over offshore wind. Trump has promised, with the help of Congressman Jeff Van Drew, to stop projects in their tracks, potentially ending the offshore wind industry, while Gov. Phil Murphy is committed to seeing it thrive.

Murphy promised in his recent state of the state address to fight for New Jersey values during his last year in office.

“I will never back away from partnering with the Trump administration where our priorities align. But, just as importantly, I will never back down from defending New Jersey values, if and when they are tested,” Murphy said.

Attorney General Matt Platkin says he will vigorously defend New Jersey’s DREAMers and undocumented immigrant population, uphold environmental regulations and New Jersey’s constitution, and fight for abortion rights and transgender rights.

Platkin said he will do all he can to keep gun laws in the Garden State among the strongest in the nation. He says any time Trump stands down to the gun industry, states like New Jersey will stand up to end gun violence.
