PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Those celebrating Pride in the Gayborhood say it looks different, but the LGBTQ+ communities don't need a parade to be out and proud.

It was announced earlier this year that the annual Pride parade was canceled due to the pandemic.

"When I think of Pride, I think of my friends coming out and enjoying the day together," said David, who was enjoying brunch in the heart of the Gayborhood along 12th and Locust streets.

They agree they don't need a parade, they have one another. And Rich is excited to turn the page on the pandemic chapter.

"We're getting through this pandemic, we've been vaccinated and now it's time to get out and enjoy life," he said.

Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims said if anything, the LGBTQ+ community is resilient and adapts well to change.

"I'm really excited that LGBTQ people don't need a commercialized event in order to get together and celebrate being queer," said Sims.
