PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One year since a 27-year-old man was ambushed as he returned home from work, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is renewing calls for help in identifying a suspect in the shooting — the county’s only unsolved homicide of 2025.
Around 9 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2025, Cesar Flores-Diaz was shot and killed as he was parking his car outside his home on the 800 block of George Street in Norristown.
Surveillance video from that evening shows a man hiding in a stairwell for about five minutes. When Flores-Diaz pulls up and starts to back into a parking spot, the man runs across the street and fires several shots into the driver’s side window.
Flores-Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene. His car was still running and the headlights were on.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said every homicide case is important, and this is the county’s only unsolved homicide from last year.
“Over the last 10 years, our solve rate has been over 96%. Often, it’s 100%,” he said. “We would like to make sure that we are able to hold those accountable that commit homicides in Montgomery County.”
The Montgomery County DA’s Office re-released the video on the anniversary of the shooting in the hopes of identifying the gunman, who had “a unique blue backpack and a distinctive gait,” investigators said.
“This was a case where they were lying in wait,” said Steele. “Our victim parked his car and was then shot. We have video of it, and we are certain that people have information.”
There is a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the shooter.
“We want to make sure they are accountable for what they have done,” he added, “and we want to give and bring justice to him and his family.”
