PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Labor officials are warning those trying to collect unemployment of a new tactic being used by fraudsters.
Officials said those who want to collect your identity or unemployment cash are now sending out emails and Facebook posts telling recipients they have received a prize.
“Then when the victim clicks on the link, the attacker has them take steps to tie their identity to the attacker’s log in,” Oleksiak explained.
He said officials will never ask for your personal and private information, including full social security numbers, addresses and usernames and passwords.
“L&I does not currently offer assistance claiming over social media messaging, due to the inability to guarantee security and confidentiality,” he said.
Anyone who may have received such a message should notify the state’s labor department.
