EAST NORRITON, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A former administrator at Penn Christian Academy is accused of stealing nearly $600,000 from the school.
The Montgomery County district attorney’s office says 36-year-old Katherine Paprocka from Paoli stole $579,651 from the private Montgomery County school where she was the senior administrator from July 2020 through December 2021.
According to the DA’s office, an investigation into Paprocka’s activity began after one of the school’s private donors looked into some suspected funding irregularities and uncovered about $50,000 of reimbursements that were not associated with properly submitted expenses.
Further investigation from the DA’s office and law enforcement found the rest.
Investigators say Paprocka forged signatures of other employers and volunteers to get credit cards in other people’s names and pretended to be majority owner of the school to secure payroll funding.
Charging documents allege Paprocka used the stolen money for family vacations to London, Florida and New York, clothes, dining out, and in-vitro fertilization.
Paprocka is facing a long list of charges, including forgery, theft, receiving stolen property, and dealing in proceeds of unlawful taking.
District Attorney Kevin Steele says this case is a reminder that nonprofits need to make sure more than one person has control and oversight of finances.
