PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It’s game day for the Eagles, and some die-hard fans got an early start on their tailgate in South Philadelphia in anticipation of the 8:15 p.m. home opener Monday against the Atlanta Falcons.

For the last 11 years, Eric Wayne has tailgated and been a pitmaster for Eagles home games. And his menu is nothing short of amazing.

“Got here about 4:40 this morning. I got a lot going on. Got a pig going right now. Gonna come off about 5:00, 5:30. Then, around the same time, we’re going to start cooking some bone-in ribeye, some lobster tail, a little bit of short rib going on — so, got a little bit of everything going on today.”

Wayne is one of a number of people who start their tailgate before the lots even open. And he says the early start time is well worth it.

“You meet new people. It’s all Eagles family down here, so that’s what it’s all about. Just family and fun. It’s like Christmas Day down here.”

His prediction for the night’s game: Eagles, 33; Falcons, 10.

It was still dark out when Jeremy Smith got to Lincoln Financial Field.

“We got smoked collard greens, homemade macaroni salad, like two or three different homemade barbecue sauces. We’re doing bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast.”

His prediction: “If we can limit our turnovers and the defense stays strong, we’re going to win this 27-19.”

Chris Lee who left Oakton, Virginia, at 4:45 a.m. to be one of the first people in line to the parking lot at the Linc, says he doesn't do predictions.

“I just want the win. As Jalen Hurts says, let’s keep the main thing the main thing and let’s get the W. That’s all I care about.”

Merrill Reese, the Hall of Fame "Voice of the Eagles," says if the Eagles clean up their mistakes, they can start the season 2-0. He outlined three keys to victory for the Eagles.

1. Put immediate pressure on Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins. "Do not give him time to get into a rhythm."

2. Wrap up running back Bijan Robinson, No. 7, at the line of scrimmage. "Last week, the Eagles' tackling was not sound, and too many big runs occurred."

3. Avoid turnovers. "No gifts, please. The Eagles are loaded with weapons, but turnovers killed in Game One."

The Eagles have a challenging schedule, with only two home games in October and November. Reese says it is vitally important that the Birds win early to put themselves in a strong position later in the season.
