PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man will spend the next 18 to 36 years in prison for selling heroin laced with fentanyl to a 34-year-old Paoli man, who overdosed later that day.

Jamal Keys, 43, was found guilty in July of drug delivery resulting in death, criminal conspiracy and related charges. He was sentenced this week.

Police were called to a house on Devon Road on April 1, 2019, where the victim had overdosed. Police found 14 packets of heroin on his nightstand.

Three days earlier, investigators say Keys sold the victim the heroin packets laced with fentanyl for $100. Keys reached out to the victim over the following days to sell him more, but he never got a response, officials say.

According to the victim’s family, that day was the last time he was seen alive.

Keys’ cousin delivered heroin on his behalf to undercover cops days later, which ultimately led to his arrest.
