PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police have arrested a person wanted in connection to gunfire that erupted as hundreds of young people gathered on Broad Street near Temple University’s campus Saturday night.
Police say during the gathering, which was organized on social media, several fights broke out and gunshots were fired as officials tried to disperse the crowd. The shooting suspect then fled the scene in a camouflage jacket and brown sweatpants.
Philadelphia, Temple, and SEPTA police launched a joint investigation this week in search of the suspect.
On Tuesday, Philadelphia police executed a search warrant on North Hancock Street in Fairhill and recovered a stolen firearm, which they believe was used in the shooting. They also located the believed suspect, whose identity is not yet known, inside the residence and arrested him.
He is charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and violation of the Uniform Firearms Act.
