PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 2-year-old boy and four teens were wounded in separate quadruple shootings just hours apart in Philadelphia Wednesday night.
The first shooting happened around 11 p.m. at Creighton Street and Wyalusing Avenue in West Philadelphia. Police found a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.
The gunfire also hit a KIA SUV. Inside, police said a 2-year-old boy was hit in the leg, either by a graze wound or broken glass. He is listed in stable condition.
The driver and the front passenger, both women ages 37 and 26, were wounded and left in critical condition, shot in the lower back and head, respectively.
A 6-year-old boy also in the backseat was not hurt.
Police say the SUV was parked and the occupants of the car were talking to the 26-year-old man when the shots were fired. They have not determined who the intended target was.
About three hours after that shooting, police responded to 911 calls from the area of Seventh and Wallace streets in Poplar. Shots were fired in the courtyard of the Spring Garden Apartments, a Philadelphia Housing Authority complex.
Police on scene said four teens were standing outside, close to a home where two of the teens lives, when gunfire rang out.
“We know someone or a group of people fired 21 shots from a large caliber semi-automatic weapon,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Three of them were struck in the face or head. A 15-year-old boy was shot in the face; a 16-year-old girl was shot in the face and leg; and a 14-year-old girl suffered a graze would to the head. Another 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg.
All were initially listed in critical condition, but they are all expected to survive.
A motive was not initially clear. Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene that is different from the gun that was believed to have been used to shoot the teens.
There have been no arrests for either shooting.
