Numerous Philadelphia public schools to go virtual this week

100 district schools held online classes last week due to COVID-19 staffing shortages

The School District of Philadelphia added seven more schools to its list of those having to switch to virtual classes due to staffing issues.

- James G. Blaine School
- Roberto Clemente Middle School
- Thomas Edison High
- Louis H. Farrell School
- Hancock Demonstration School
- Mary McLeod Bethune School
- Samuel Pennypacker School

14 schools were placed on the list as of late Monday afternoon, with any additional schools that would close Tuesday to be announced late Monday evening.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 100 Philadelphia schools that were virtual this week are returning to in-person classes next week.

Eight schools, though, are shifting to online classes for next week because of COVID-19 staffing shortages.

The district expects to issue updates to the closing list at 10 p.m. Friday, and then again at 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday.

Schools and district offices are closed Monday for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
