PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It’s been three years since a teenage couple was found shot to death in a car in the city’s Olney neighborhood.
Philadelphia investigators are taking a fresh look at the case and hope someone who may have seen something that day — Aug. 16, 2021 — calls in with a tip.
Khyrie Isaac, 18, was an only child, a “standout wide receiver.” Ojanae Thompson, 19, had just graduated high school and was spending the summer working, deciding what her next move in life would be.
The two had been dating for more than a year when Homicide Detective Frank Campbell said they ran an errand at the ShopRite at Front Street and Olney Avenue and were gunned down by three people inside Isaac’s rented BMW.
“I mean three people getting out of a vehicle and firing that many times into a car isn’t something that randomly happens,” said Campbell, who’s been working on the case.
More than 20 rounds were fired. Both teenagers were shot several times. Isaac died that night; Thompson died two weeks later.
“It’s just heartbreaking for the family, ya know,” Campbell said.
He says surveillance cameras were just out of view — but the parking lot was full and he knows someone must have seen something.
“Anything helps me,” he said. “I mean someone may think something is trivial but it may be something that is extremely valuable to me.”
Anyone with information is asked to call in with a tip at 215-686-8477, even if they remain anonymous.
