The Philadelphia School District announced Monday night that 98 schools will operate with remote learning for the rest of the week. Four schools were announced on Monday night.

The district announced Sunday evening that a total of 91 schools will continue learning remotely this week.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Staffing issues, mixed with surging COVID-19 numbers, have pushed School District of Philadelphia officials to continue with virtual learning at more than 40 schools, for a second straight week.
The district said they'll continue to keep as many of their school buildings open as consistently as possible as long as they are confident they can do so safely.
But they do have a number of schools that will be 100% virtual from Monday, January 10 through Friday, January 14.

They added although 85% of district teaching staff is vaccinated, they are still dealing with staffing shortages.
The announcement of these schools participating in virtual learning coincided with new guidance from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. CHOP officials said they support in-person education, even in times of significant community transmission, and proposed new guidance to reduce excessive burden to school staff and families.
Students participating in virtual learning will be able to pick up grab-and-go meals at 24 sites, up from 12 last week, distributing them daily from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
