PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia prosecutors have struck a plea deal with a man charged with attempted murder nearly two years ago.

Prosecutors say in May 2021, Joseph Scott, 38, helped ambush a then 35-year-old man outside of a Kensington convenience store, brutally beating, kicking and stabbing him. Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Homicide Supervisor Chelsey Lightsey told KYW in 2021 that the man suffered a lung injury from the attack and had to have a portion of his lung removed.

They say the attack was allegedly orchestrated by Scott and his girlfriend, Devon McAndrews.

Scott shot at the victim, who pushed the gun away and suffered only a graze wound to the head.

Authorities say that following weekend, when they pulled Scott over and tried to arrest him on attempted murder and gun charges, he pointed a gun at them.

They say a child was also in the car along with Scott and McAndrews, who was arrested on aggravated assault and related charges.

Scott pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and two weapons charges.

He was sentenced to three-to-10 years in prison, with credit for time served and five years of probation. He was also ordered to drug and alcohol treatment with parenting and anger management classes.
