Philadelphia Police investigate shooting involving 2 officers

One of the suspects fired several times at officers, police say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police’s internal affairs investigators are trying to sort out a shooting involving two officers Wednesday in the city’s Wayne Junction neighborhood.

Police said one of the arrested suspects fired several times at the cops.

According to police, three officers assigned to the Northwest Task Force were in an unmarked car along Keyser Street near Logan Street around 3 p.m. when they noticed a black Cadillac with tinted windows going around the block a few times.

Officers said a man dressed in all black got out of the car two different times and began shooting at someone along Logan Street, then turned and began firing at police.

They said one cop yelled to the alleged shooter to drop the gun and fired at him three times. They added that another officer fired once and the suspect ran off, but he was eventually arrested in a vacant lot blocks away.

He was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the foot, but they aren’t sure if the bullet is from police and are awaiting ballistic results.

Officials said during the melee, a second suspect grabbed a gun from under a parked car and put it in his waistband, but when they ordered him to put his hands up, he complied and they arrested him. They also recovered two guns.

As with every police shooting, the two officers who fired their guns have been placed on desk duty until the investigation is complete.

Charges against the two suspects are pending.
