PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Congressional Republicans have issued a subpoena to New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s administration over the improper voter registration of noncitizens.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan gave the state until Nov. 16 to turn over its records. The committee is seeking information on how New Jersey enforces federal election law, checks citizenship, and removes ineligible voters from the rolls.
The governor announced in July that 6,600 noncitizens were accidentally registered to vote through a software glitch at the Motor Vehicle Commission. Sherrill issued a statement saying her administration took action as soon as the issue was discovered.
She called the committee’s subpoena “political theater” less than two weeks before Election Day.
Sherrill said she remains committed to keeping New Jersey’s elections free, fair and secure.
