PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities in Montgomery County have made a second arrest in the deadly home invasion in Lower Merion Township earlier this month.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said 42-year-old Kelvin Roberts was taken into custody Tuesday morning in Willow Grove.
Roberts is one of two men accused of breaking into a home on Meredith Road, right off City Avenue, in Wynnewood on Dec. 8. Investigators said two victims inside the home were shot, leaving 25-year-old Andrew Gaudio dead and his 61-year-old mother, Bernadette Gaudio, paralyzed.
Police said Roberts is the man seen in surveillance images fleeing the scene in a white Hyundai Azera. Last week, the district attorney announced the arrest of the other suspect, 41-year-old Charles Fulforth.
Officials said Roberts and Fulforth, who worked together at Junkluggers, a junk collection agency in Willow Grove, were potentially part of a larger gun trafficking organization.
Investigators said both men were at the Wynnewood house looking for guns to steal. However, they targeted the wrong house.
"On Dec. 6, Junkluggers employees did an estimate of a residence in Bucks County with a similar address to the victim's address in Lower Merion, Montgomery County," said District Attorney Kevin Steele. "Following that estimate, information was relayed to Charles Fulforth and then to Kelvin Roberts about a whole lot of guns being in the house."
Roberts was arrested at Junkluggers on Tuesday. The owner is cooperating with authorities in their ongoing investigation.
Investigators said Roberts was attempting to organize a flight to Jamaica before his arrest, per messages they found on his phone when he was arrested. They said he was also armed, and a small pursuit happened before he was taken into custody.
Fulforth is charged with second-degree murder while Roberts is charged with first-degree murder. They both also face charges of robbery, conspiracy and related offenses.
