PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — SEPTA is making a number of changes starting today on the Regional Rails that could affect your trip. Six lines are affected.
Four of the six lines will involve adjustments to train times and cancelling some service on the Chestnut Hill East, Lansdale-Doylestown, Manyunk-Norristown, and Trenton lines.
SEPTA's Andrew Busch said crews are beginning some much-needed reconstruction work.
"We have our crews working on projects to replace and upgrade overhead wire, the lines that provide power to the trains along those lines," he said. "For some, it may be some minor timetable changes but we do have some instances in there where trips have been cancelled or otherwise adjusted that people will need to plan ahead for."
However, on the Fox Chase line, Busch said they're actually adding two trips: an early-morning and late-night train.
"And that's being done to provide additional service for essential workers at the Fox Chase Cancer Center and also at Temple University Hospital Jeanes Campus," he said.
Busch said SEPTA is willing to make similar changes on other Regional Rail routes if asked.
"We're going to continue those conversations with area employers to determine their needs and we're going to continue to adjust service levels," he said.
On the Wilmington-Newark line, Busch said SEPTA is re-introducing service to the Churchman's Crossing and Newark stations.
"This is being done to help alleviate congestion and traffic that would be impacted by the reconstruction of I-95," he said.
Busch said you should go to the transit agency's website > to check out the changes to see whether your train is affected.
