PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police have arrested a man wanted for shooting a SEPTA guide on the Market-Frankford Line last month.
Kevin Hockaday was taken into custody Tuesday evening after barricading himself inside a family member’s house near 18th Street and Montgomery Avenue in North Philadelphia. He surrendered after about an hour.
He was wanted for shooting a contracted SEPTA guide in the leg on an El train as it approached the Arrott Transportation Center in Frankford on June 15. SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch said a dispute erupted between 24-year-old Hockaday and the security officer.
Hockaday is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and firearms offenses.
The guide, an employee of Scotlandyard Security Services, is expected to make a full recovery.
Busch said the guide was armed during the incident but wasn’t authorized to carry a gun on duty. As a result, Busch said the guide won’t be working for SEPTA anymore.
