PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — After two winters of little to no snow fall, some hardware stores throughout the Philadelphia region are starting to get rid of their overstocked inventory.

COVID-19 has helped slow business down at Fairmount Hardware in Philadelphia according to co-owner Dave Arici, who said the recent onslaught of winter storms have been a blessing in disguise.

"The last couple of storms have been pretty prosperous for us. We've sold thousands of pounds of salt and calcium and shovels probably to the tune of 400 to 500," Arici said.

He said thanks to a lack of storms in winters past, his business and others from across the region have been able to keep up with the high demand of winter products.

"We were able to pull from the warehouse and have the inventory, as well as all the other little local hardware stores who have backup inventory," he explained.

He said he does not see inclement weather predicted for later this week to be a problem for them, as they still have enough inventory.

While many are buying shovels and salt, he said the real big sellers are their sleds.
