PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The South Jersey truck stop at the center of an awful smell permeating across the region has reopened.
Investigators believe the chemical reaction inside the truck carrying 7,000 gallons of the fuel additive Lubrizol has ended. The chemical started to release byproducts in the summer heat on Aug. 10, creating a rotten egg-like scent.
Officials monitoring the truck at the TA Travel Center in East Greenwich Township say the contents inside have solidified.
The tanker was moved to a far corner lot as mitigation crews dismantle the equipment.
Officials have said the air quality is safe but are continuing to monitor it.
Thousands of people in and around Gloucester County reported being able to smell what was described as natural gas or rotten eggs after the fumes were released.
