PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Drivers who speed through Delaware on I-95 will want to slow down. On Monday, DelDOT switched on a set of new speed cameras in the construction zone along the expressway in the Wilmington area.
Officials say there were 423 crashes in the work zone last year, a 49% increase from 2019.
The pilot Electronic Speed Safety Program will be active only in the I-95 construction zone and will last until the project is complete.
The program starts with a 30-day warning period. After that, drivers caught speeding will be fined a minimum of $20, plus an additional dollar amount for each mile per hour over the posted work zone speed limit. Violations are civil penalties only, and points will not be assessed to driver's licenses.
