PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of a woman in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, over the weekend.

Authorities said 44-year-old Steven Jahn is the man who shot and killed a woman late Saturday night as she was driving along Contention Lane near Old State Road in Berwyn.

“This was a random act of violence in our community, and it's just been an unspeakable tragedy that our detectives worked around the clock in order to solve,” said Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.

de Barrena-Sarobe said the woman crashed into a pole after being shot. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died Sunday night.

The District Attorney said authorities believe Jahn acted alone. He said video evidence from the community helped lead investigators to him.

“A lot of the videos that we've been able to piece together and a lot of the leads have given us a better picture of what happened that night, but for right now, again, I just want to emphasize that the community is safe,” he said.

Officials said there appears to be no connection between Jahn and the victim.

The victim’s name has not yet been released out of respect for the family.
Jahn is facing murder charges.
