PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Schoolchildren in Camden County panicked on Thursday when they saw an ICE operation taking place near their bus stop.
The Lindenwold School District said it happened Thursday morning at the Woodland Village Apartments. Fourth- and fifth-grade students were waiting at the bus stop when multiple immigration enforcement vehicles pulled up to the complex.
Students are seen on doorbell camera video running away from the bus stop.
“I was so in panic because it was my first time seeing them in person,” student Valery Pachecho Nunez told NBC10. “It makes me feel sad because some people are leaving this country without their parents.”
The district said the bus driver circled the area multiple times to pick up as many children as he could to transport them safely to school.
Officials said all students in the school were safe. There were no ICE agents at any school district building, and dismissal was closely monitored. The district also deployed bilingual and English-speaking counselors to speak with any children who needed support.
