PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating a suspicious death in North Philadelphia. Officials said a woman’s body was discovered in an abandoned property late Tuesday night.

Around 11 p.m., medics responded to the property on Orianna Street, between Susquehanna Avenue and Dauphin Street. They then called police, who went up to the third floor and found a woman on the floor leaning against a bed.

“Cause of death unknown at this time,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small, “but it does appear suspicious. Does appear that she has some trauma to her face, specifically her nose and her mouth.”

Police said the property was being used by squatters.

It was not immediately clear how long the body had been there, police said. She has not been identified and is considered to be a Jane Doe. The body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation.

Small said there are surveillance cameras outside the building, and detectives will look through footage as they investigate.
