PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 10-year-old boy is dead after a teenage driver ignored a crossing guard, jumped a curb, and struck him and another boy, then slammed into a house in New Castle County, Delaware, police said.

The 10-year-old was walking with a 12-year-old boy on the sidewalk near the intersection of Faulkland and Centerville roads in Wilmington when they were hit Monday afternoon.

Investigators said the teenager was driving westbound on Faulkland Road and crossed the double yellow line into the opposite lane, striking the boys.

The driver continued until he ran into a house on the southwest corner of Faulkland Road.

The 12-year-old suffered minor injuries. The 10-year-old died at the hospital.

A crossing guard was at the intersection at the time of the crash. A neighbor told NBC10 he believed the car was going 60 or 70 miles an hour.

Police said the driver was a 17-year-old boy. He was treated for injuries at the hospital. Officials have not yet said if he is facing any charges.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have surveillance footage is asked to contact New Castle County Detective Belk at 302-395-8052 or corey.belk@newcastlede.gov, or the police department’s non-emergency number, 302-573-2800.
