PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The games will soon begin at Twenty One Pips, Ardmore’s new board game room and restaurant.

Twenty One Pips, located at 24 Cricket Ave., officially opens to the public on July 22. Gamers may recognize its name from those little dots found on dice.

“If you count how many are on a traditional six-sided die, it’s 21,” said Chris Fitzpatrick, director of guest experience.

The kitchen is the sister restaurant to Thirsty Dice board game cafe in Fairmount, but the Ardmore spot has an expanded menu.

“There’s actual full meals here,” said Fitzpatrick. “Thirsty Dice, there’s tots, appetizers — again, we have actual full meals [at Twenty One Pips]. There’s snacks for shareables. But we have an elevated menu of charcuterie boards, pizza, flatbreads. We have burgers, we have wings, we have chicken.”

Also on the menu: games. Fitzpatrick said they have more than 400 games in their library and counting. Customers interested in playing will be charged $5 for a so-called library card that gives them two hours of play.

Included in that library card are the services of the restaurant’s “game tenders.”

“They’re like a sommelier for games,” he explained. “They’ve read through the rules. They’ve gone through all the intricacies of their knowledge, their expertise, their role clarifying and breaking up fights.”

Customers who fall in love with the games can even purchase some in the restaurant’s gift shop.
