$34.5M available for Chester County emergency rental, utility assistance

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Chester County is the latest of the Philadelphia collar counties to make rental and utility assistance available for residents in need.

Chester County received $34.5 million in coronavirus relief aid. Qualified applicants must be unemployed or have experienced a reduction in income, demonstrate a risk of homelessness or housing instability, and have a household income at or below federal guidelines.

On April 16, the county will hold a webinar to fully explain who qualifies and how to apply.

Help is also available for residents of Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware and Bucks counties.

Philadelphia launched its fourth phase of rental assistance, which Mayor Jim Kenney said will now help with overdue utility bills.

“Since May, the city has put over $65 million into the hands of landlords and tenants to help more than 14,000 households,” he said.

In Montgomery County, the rent and utility relief program allows eligible households to receive up to 12 months of assistance dating back to March 13, 2020. There is no limit on the amount of assistance a household can receive.

For Delaware County residents, more than $35 million is available through the renter assistance program.
