PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Going to the Wells Fargo Center for a game? You’ll have to abide by a new code of conduct.
In a new video, arena staff and players — including Sixers Matisse Thybulle and Danny Green and Flyers Kevin Crowley and Anthony Joaquim — break down some of the rules.
Attendees must not throw things at players (except hats after a Flyers hat trick), and they cannot inappropriately harass athletes. And, there will be a zero-tolerance policy for racial or other slurs.
In May, a Sixers fan was banned from the Wells Fargo Center after he poured popcorn on Wizards star Russell Westbrook as he returned to the locker room.
“The amount of disrespect, the amount of fans just doing whatever the [expletive] they want to do, it’s just out of pocket,” Westbrook said at the time.
Flyers President of Business Operations Valerie Camillo said this code is a first in the NHL.
“We’re looking to eliminate knucklehead behavior,” she said. “We’re not looking to do anything to bring down the energy, the excitement, the noise that comes with attending a Philly sporting event.”
People who violate the code of conduct could be ejected from the game or event, arrested by police, or revoked of their season tickets, parking privileges or other benefits.
Fans can report inappropriate behavior by texting 954-WFC-TEXT.
The NHL is considering using the code of conduct as a model for the entire league.
