PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Phillies fans will have a new way to get to Clearwater, Florida, come next year’s spring training.
Philadelphia International Airport welcomed a new airline on Thursday: Allegiant Airlines.
Allegiant offers twice-weekly nonstop service between Des Moines, Iowa; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Grand Rapids, Michigan. But come Oct. 2, there will be another key destination for Phillies fans: St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport.
Kate Sullivan, chief commercial officer for the Philadelphia Department of Aviation, said it makes it even easier for fans to get to spring training.
“St. Pete is about a 15-minute drive from the airport to the ballpark. It’s an amazing, nonstop option,” added Kristen Schilling-Gonzales, the vice president of planning and revenue at Allegiant.
Also on Oct. 2, Allegiant will add nonstop service between New Jersey’s Trenton-Mercer Airport and Orlando.
