A woman who said she was chased near City Hall and threatened by a man in a Chucky-style mask said she was "extremely terrified." She testified during a preliminary hearing on Tuesday for Zymire Hughes.
She told the judge she was running near City Hall early in the morning on Aug. 12 when a masked man suddenly appeared. She said she turned down the volume on her headphones and heard him ask, “Are you ready to die?” She said his hand was behind his back and she thought he had a weapon.
She screamed and ran away, but fell and tore her hamstring.
Hughes was arrested in Las Vegas, where he lives. Prosecutors tried to add a charge of fleeing to avoid arrest, but the judge denied that, saying they didn't provide enough evidence.
The judge ordered Hughes to stand trial on charges of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats. He is due back in court on Oct. 6.
