Rob and Joss: Super Fun Weekend Fun Blog for Jan 3-5

So, we’re doing that whole “Dry January” thing. You know. Sobriety for the month. We’ll see if we can go the whole month. We’ll see too if there are any cheat days in there. But so far, I LOVE IT.

I know! Crazy!

After 6 months of what I call the “Vodka and Cheese Diet” also known as “Having a lot of fun after you get married and get all skinny to fit into your wedding dress,” we decided that it’s time for the party to end.

Wow, it was  a good time though. I would even say it was worth it! Cheese, crackers, vodka, margaritas, chardonnay, French fries, tortillas, beef. Whatever looked good, smelled good or was in front of us.

Now, it’s time for vegetables, water and herbal tea (more on that in a second)

Rob and I haven’t had a drink since New Year’s Eve…and I feel amazing. The quality of sleep itself makes it worth it. No more being wide awake in the middle of the night. No more waking up in a bad mood  (both things a result of a nightly glass of wine and bad food) Nope, it’s solid sleep and hope for a NEW DAY!

Now, the herbal tea. This is a good replacement in the evening when you’d like a glass of wine while you cook dinner or at night before bed. OR a glass of sparkling water in a wine glass with some fruit, that’s also a nice replacement. Because it’s not about what is IN the glass (for me, at least) it’s the ritual. The sipping.

Rob and I are also working to lose the weight we’ve gained after our 6 months party. I am not sure how much Rob gained, but I’ve gained at least 12 pounds.  So far, I’ve lost like 2. Not bad. Rob has lost like 6! Doesn’t that make you want to scream? How QUICKLY men lose weight? Never make a man your weight loss/workout buddy…you’ll want to scream.

So anywhoo – here’s what we did this weekend…Friday afternoon was a day of “Adulting.”  I had to make phone calls to everybody from Insurance Companies to home owners associations. Bills had to be paid, appointments had to be made. I had a pile of papers ALL OVER the dining room table to be dug and sorted through (I’m remiss I didn’t take a picture for you)

After the adulting (which I am ALMOST done with) we went for a walk and then we picked up dinner.

We got fish for Rob and I and a hamburger for Rob’s son (my step-son). You know, I can’t fry ANYTHING in a pan without setting off a smoke detector. I really thought that this would stop once we moved out of our little apartment and into a proper house. But, alas, AGAIN I set off the detector when I was cooking the hamburger. And you know what? Our smoke detector TALKS! It’s a woman’s voice that yells at you! “Fire! Fire! Fire!” We also have a talking burglar alarm. Apparently everything in this house needs to have it’s say. I’m surprised the cats don’t speak English and yell stuff at us. 10 bucks says that if they could, they would!

I got really crabby when the smoke detector went off. Very annoyed at my shoddy cooking. Rob goes “See? This is what happens when we quit drinking!”

The dinner actually came out pretty tasty though! HA! Even the hamburger came out tasty!

Saturday morning we got up early and ran into La Jolla to The Lot to meet up with our realtor, James George (The British Realtor) for his private showing for KyXy listeners of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

We met a group of the nicest, funniest, sweetest KyXy listeners (but aren’t you all?) We were honored to meet such cool people!

After that we tried to go to our old sandwich shop in Mission Valley…but the computer was down. Then we tried to get Rob’s prescription and his prescription card wouldn’t work! SO, we just sort of gave up on everything and headed home!

At home we had a little peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a dill pickle. You ever try this combination? It’s delightful. Trust us.

After a nap, we took a walk and then went BACK to the store to get dinner. I swear – EVERY DAY we’re at the store. We got stuff for Taco Salad! I actually made dinner without incident!!! Amazing!

In between everything, I decided to take down the Christmas decorations. I usually like taking them down on the 26th, but they’ve been up a super short amount of time this year…so I felt like I should “Make it worth it.” I ALMOST kept them up til the 11th…but just couldn’t quite make it this time around.

So – here we are on a Sunday. We’re going to get stuff done for the morning show, take our walk, do our shopping, perhaps tuck more Christmas stuff away and find some healthy stuff to eat. 

Tomorrow, we shall do it all over again – but for us, it’s the first full workweek of the year! I for one am looking forward to it…isn’t that weird?
