The Padres brought out their brooms on Wednesday, and defeated the Nationals 9-2 to complete a 3-game sweep in front of the Friar Faithful. Walker Buehler didn't make it out of the 3rd inning, as the Padres fell behind 2-0. But San Diego immediately responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd, highlighted by a 2-run triple from Jackson Merrill that was the start of a massive game for him. The Nationals didn't cross home again after the 3rd, and Merrill went 4-5 including two home runs and six RBIs. The Padres tallied 16 hits and 9 runs, and hit 5-10 with runners in scoring position to turn the contest into a laugher. The Padres will now hit the road and begin a series in San Francisco against the Giants on Friday as they push hard to secure a wild card spot in the National League.
