“This Friday!" That’s all DaBaby had to tweet, and given the inclusion of a CD emoji, all signs certainly pointed to an album. Since the original tweet, the rapper has confirmed a release date of April 17 for his newest project, Blame It On Baby.
DaBaby had quite the year last year with two album releases, Baby On Baby and KIRK, with the latter generating impressive singles such as “BOP” and “VIBEZ.” He racked up multiple collaborations with both Hip Hop and Pop artists, and also managed to get himself into a few bouts of legal trouble for alleged assault, resisting arrest for marijuana possession, and pouring apple juice on a club promoter.
While DaBaby’s legal issues have taken a back seat due to the coronavirus lockdown, his hustle has prevailed. Two weeks ago, Baby released his 10-minute mini-movie for “Find a Way,” channeling a Bonnie & Clyde ride-or-die relationship, and now an album. Whether that or his previous single “Shut Up” end up on the album is unknown, but the DaBaby won’t makes us wait much longer to find out.
Three more days until “This Friday” and the album is ours to listen to.
DaBaby joins the growing lists of artist who have been recording new projects while practicing social distancing and self-isolation. Post Malone promised his fans a new album in 2020, calling this time “Quarantine Album Mode.” Drake also shared with Diddy in an Instagram Live that he’s using this time of isolation to focus on something "fresh and new."
