The 93rd annual Academy Awards will not allow for virtual acceptance speeches.

Producers for the 2021 Oscars have revealed more details of what fans can expect from the in-person event next month.

Unlike the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards, this year’s ceremony won’t permit nominees to make appearances via Zoom, producers said in an email, according to the LA Times.

“Our plan is to stage an intimate, in-person event at Union Station in Los Angeles, with additional show elements live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood,” the letter to the nominees read.

“For those of you unable to attend because of scheduling or continued uneasiness about traveling, we want you to know there will not be an option to Zoom in for the show,” the letter continued.

“We are going to great lengths to provide a safe and enjoyable evening for all of you in person, as well as for all the millions of film fans around the world, and we feel the virtual thing will diminish those efforts.”

To ensure the health of all attendees, the event will have an on-site COVID-19 safety team, PCR testing and different protocols for people traveling and those already in the Los Angeles area.

The scaled down ceremony has also paired down invitations as only nominees, their guest, and presenters will be in attendance at the in-person event.

While producers are “aiming for a feeling of casual exchange and good humor,” they are discouraging attendees from dressing down.

“A fusion of Inspirational and Aspirational, which in actual words means formal is totally cool if you want to go there, but casual is really not,” the letter said in regards to dress code.

Looks like the Academy wants to give viewers old Hollywood red carpet glamour, rather than another viral Jason Sudeikis hoodie moment from the Golden Globes.
