Monday marks one month since someone bought a winning Mega Millions ticket worth $1.3 billion dollars at a Des Plaines, Illinois gas station.
The second largest Mega Million’s jackpot is still unclaimed, however. Harold Mays, head of the Illinois Lottery encouraged people to check their tickets.
"We don't know whether or not they even know that they won," he told the Guardian.
The winner still has a month to decide if they want the jackpot in a lump sum or annual payments and they have a year from the July 29 drawing to claim their prize, which they can do anonymously.
What we do know is that it was purchased at a Speedway on Touhy in Des Plaines. If no one comes forward, each of the 45 participating states – plus Washington D.C. and the Virgin Islands will get their portion returned.
