Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - City officials have announced that all real estate rebate checks will be in the mail by Monday, June 30.

In a Friday press release, the City of Richmond said its finance department has begun mailing rebate checks to residents who owned property in 2024.

Residents should be aware of the following, according to the City:

• Checks will be sent to the address on file with the city’s finance department.
• Qualified residents do not need to take any additional actions.
• Recipients can expect their checks in the mail by early July, depending on postal delivery.
• Property owners (payees) with more than 35 characters in their names may require additional processing at financial institutions.

Officials said there was a delay in mailing the remaining checks due to incorrect checks that were sent out to the payee “Hartshorn Community Council.”

This comes after over 8,000 residents received rebate checks with the wrong names. The error prompted the resignation of a city official.

The rebate was approved by City Council in 2024 and aims to provide financial relief amid rising property values and housing costs. Those with questions can contact RVA 311 by dialing 3-1-1 inside of the city limits or by submitting a ticket online.
