Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The former head of the Richmond field office of the FBI says placing the FBI headquarters in Springfield would be "essential" for great outcomes for the local FBI division. Adam Lee, who retired in 2018, says he knows the Richmond division had better results than other field offices because of proximity, and says moving the headquarters to either of the proposed Maryland locations would damage those results.
Lee says logistically, placing the new headquarters in Maryland requires a trip along the beltway, and the potential for traffic issues. He also says he knows a large number of FBI personnel already live in Northern Virginia, and it would be easier for them in Springfield as well.
Lee says a replacement for the J. Edgar Hoover building in Washington, D.C. is badly needed. He says the building is falling apart, and is far behind technology-wise. It is unclear when a final decision will be made.
