Short Pump, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin, on the holy day of Eid, visited the West End Islamic Center recently hit by vandalism. The center was vandalized April 17th, with graffiti and trash thrown around the unfinished building, as well as other damage.

Members of the center asked Youngkin for help with fighting Islamophobia, through education and training. Youngkin did say the best way to deal with the issue is to condemn it when you see it. Youngkin did employ Matt Wolking, who wrote a controversial anti-Islamic Blog a decade ago, in his campaign for Governor.

Center Treasurer Syed Perwez says the investigation into the vandalism, both from April, and an incident in November, is ongoing. He says Henrico Police have been very helpful with additional security checks, and help in getting security cameras. Perwez also says the community has had an outpouring of help, with money, water, and other supplies. The center can be used for events but is still mostly under construction.
