Hanover, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Organizers of an effort to get an elected school board in Hanover on the ballot say it will go down to the wire. Tim McDermott, a member of the organization, says they are at about 88% of the signatures they need for the effort. The petition needs to be turned in later this month.

Hanover and Hopewell are the only Richmond-area localities that do not have elected school boards. McDermott says in Hanover, this leads to one person, a district's Board of Supervisors' member, choosing who the school board representative is.

McDermott says they are still gathering signatures, and asking people, even if they do not want an elected school board, to sign, so the voters get a choice.
