Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A JetBlue flight from Atlanta was diverted to Richmond International Airport Thursday night for a “possible security threat.”

Airport officials say the flight diverted its route to the airport just before 10 p.m. Police response was requested “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Henrico Bomb Squad investigated a “possibly suspicious bag,” but RIC officials said Friday morning that nothing dangerous was in the bag. It’s unclear at this time what was on the plane.

RIC officials confirmed that everything was cleared shortly after midnight. The passengers on the plane were provided an overnight flight.

In a statement issued Friday morning, JetBlue reiterated its commitment to customer safety.

“On Thursday, February 8, JetBlue flight 1320 with service from Atlanta (ATL) to New York (JFK) was diverted to Richmond, Virginia (RIC) as a result of a possible security threat,” the company said. “The flight was met by law enforcement, customers were deplaned and a security rescreening will take place before the flight continues to New York. The safety of our customers and crewmembers is JetBlue’s first priority, and further inquiries should be directed to law enforcement.”
