Richmond, Va (NewsradioWRVA.com) - The Reverend Al Sharpton was in Richmond Friday to support the proposed casino & resort in Southside.

The number one reason that Sharpton came to town is he sees economic development opportunity for, what he calls, long-neglected Southside Richmond. He says that the casino & resort will consist of 15 restaurants, thousands of jobs, half a billion dollars in revenue and the opportunity, he says, to provide a template because there are no other minority-owned businesses of this kind.

In response to anybody who has a negative connotation toward casinos, Sharpton says he doesn't gamble, himself, but he would have no problem supporting the businesses around the casino.

Richmond voters will have their say on the project as part of a referendum at the polls on Tuesday.
