Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - UPDATE AND CLARIFICATION: The State Superintendents Association has clarified that the letter is the position of their board and not necessarily all 133 school leaders.

ORIGINAL: A letter has been sent on behalf of all 133 public school superintendents to the Governor Glenn Youngkin's administration, complaining about the recent report into divisive concepts in education. Among the requests the Superintendents make is the termination of the controversial tip line, saying the providing people a place to call in to report on teachers impedes positive relationships.

The school leaders also take issue with the position that divisive concepts are widespread in Virginia education, and say educators should have been involved in developing that position. The superintendents also say they have issues with getting rid of the Ed Equity work, saying it had been developed over years and helped kids in underserved communities.

State Superintendent Jillian Balow has responded, saying “The letter fails to reflect the good faith efforts of which the Secretary and I joined the conversation. The specific requests listed in the letter are actions that the Secretary and I offered to the superintendents as a way to keep open productive channels of communication that could lead to partnership and ensure we are serving all students in Virginia.”
