Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - AARP Virginia says their latest four week snapshot of the Covid-19 situation in nursing homes shows a steep increase in cases. Cases for the four week period ending August 22nd were at .51 per 100 residents. In July, the figure was .02 cases per 100 residents.

On the good side, nursing home deaths over the same time period decreased. The organization's David DeBiasi says the case increase is concerning, however. They are advocating for, among other things, better staffing levels.

Nursing homes were some of the hardest hit locations early on in the Covid pandemic. The cases were, at least nationally, predmoniately among the unvaccinated.
