Houston (SPORTSRADIO 610) - In his fourth career outing, Corbin Martin would struggle to get deep into a game for the second start in a row. He would go just 3.2 innings allowing five hits, three runs and three walks, although the Astros lineup would bail him out. Thanks to eleven total hits, the Astros would over come five Chicago home runs and go on to defeat the Cubs by a final score of 9-6.
"Ball was flying tonight," Astros Manager A.J. Hinch said. "Martin was pretty good in that he was able to recover from the ambush of the home runs. Every outing is a learning outing. He could've stayed in the game. He had plenty left in the tank."
Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the fourth multi-homer game of his career. His twelve home runs in the month of May is an Astros record. At least twelve home runs in a month has happened just five other times in Astros history.
Michael Brantley went 2-for-3 and reached base safely four times. It was his American League leading 25th multi-hit game. He is also second in the AL in hits with 68.
Catcher Garrett Stubbs made his Major League debut going 2-for-4 including a double in his first at-bat. He would also notch his first RBI in his second big league at-bat. Stubbs is the first Astro since teammate Derek Fisher to have two hits in a Major League debut.
"He was excellent in maintaining his composure... I thought he did a good job of navigating some traffic," Hinch said. "He certainly deserves a lot of credit."
