Former Rockets playoff hero Robert Reid dies at 68

Sean Pendergast called him one of the nicest former Houston athletes he ever met

The Houston sports community is mourning the loss of former Houston Rockets forward Robert Reid, who died earlier this week at age 68.

Reid played 10 seasons for the Rockets in the late 1970s and through most of the '80s, including two runs to the NBA Finals. He was the second-leading scorer on the Rockets' 1980-81 team that lost to the Boston Celtics.

Reid was also known for hitting the game-tying 3-pointer in Game 5 of the 1986 Western Conference Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, which ultimately helped the Rockets rally to reach the Finals, where they lost against to the Celtics. He averaged double figures in scoring for seven of his seasons with the Rockets.
