World Cup, Voting & Olympic Debate

Georgia voters head to the polls today for primary runoff elections, with candidates competing for key positions ahead of the general election. State lawmakers are also expected to address changes needed around election procedures before a new voting law takes effect.

Atlanta is continuing to make history as the city hosts matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The first match in Atlanta featured Spain and Cape Verde playing to a scoreless draw, with more games scheduled throughout the tournament.

A debate is underway over the future of Atlanta’s 1996 Olympic cauldron. Georgia State University announced plans to move the landmark to Centennial Olympic Park, but preservation groups argue it should remain in its original Summerhill location.
