If you're experiencing stress or burn out then kick the bad habit of saying 'yes' when you should say 'no'. Research conducted at the University of California and San Francisco shows that the more difficult you find it to say no, the more likely you are to experience stress, burn out and depression. The professionals agree that saying no is indeed a major self-control challenge for so many people.
When it's time to say 'no', emotionally intelligent people avoid phrases like 'I don't think I can' or 'I'm not certain'. Saying no to a new commitment honors your existing commitments and gives you the opportunity to fulfill your current commitments. Saying no is an act of self-control now that will increase your future self control by preventing the negative effects of over-commitment. It kind of reminds me of the 80s 'just say no'.
