They’ve been our morning show here on Audacy DC for a long time and are the most downloaded show in Audacy Sports’ sphere – but are the Sports Junkies BORING?
We don’t think so, but unfortunately, we also only spend four hours a day with them, and someone who spent 24 with one of the guys for 18 years has a different opinion?
Indeed, Kelsie Flaim, JP’s oldest daughter, is overseas on a vacation and JP asked her about saving money – and she got mad, telling him: ‘yes, Dad, I don’t want to live a boring life like you.’
Kelsie is in Tokyo and will be going to Seoul, then returns home for a big before going to Mexico and the Bahamas (which at least is a family trip) – but it made JP wonder if, knowing Bish and Cakes live similar lives as he does, the group has become boring?
“Valdez may be a little bit different because he goes on golf trips, but are we all boring? And how do we become less boring?” JP asked. “I do think there are things I want to try, and maybe I’ve fallen off it?”
“Are we boring? Maybe, but you know what? If this boring, I'm cool with being boring!” Cakes said. “I don't need to jet-set off to Japan and Seoul and then to Mexico to feel like I'm living my best life!”
Kelsie’s year abroad while at NYU saw her based in Prague but visit 14 countries, which is a lot easier in Europe, and now she has that travel bug – but does that just mean she’s adventurous, or her dad and pals (who go next to nowhere) duds?
“I don’t just go to Kiawah, I went to Costa Rica last year, so I’m a world traveler – but I don’t need to go to every country on the planet,” Cakes said. “I don't need to check all those boxes, and I didn't lead a life of privilege in college where I got to go to a semester abroad. You know what my semester abroad was? Slinging cotton candy at an amusement park in New Jersey and in Texas!”
We know EB follows his kids all around the northeast to watch college sports, and since he’s on vacation, maybe this was the perfect time to call out the other lads, but Bish Bucks had the dad take.
“What your daughter doesn't understand is the financial responsibilities that you have. If you were making the same amount of money at her age, you'd be outgoing and you'd be traveling to Tokyo and all over the planet,” Jason said. “But she doesn't understand, and my daughters are the same way; they have no idea about financial responsibilities because they really don't have any. So when she says I don't want to be boring like you, well, you're boring because you only go on a couple of vacations a year because you've got a budget. You can't just go wherever you want whenever.”
JP still wonders if he should shake things up and go to Australia or on an African safari instead of the Bahamas, but Drab, who finally got the chance to go to Europe earlier this year, agrees that different strokes of financial pens don’t mean one is any more or less ‘boring.’
Well, unless you’re Valdez.
“Now, yes, but when you were younger, probably not,” he said.
“You guys are very comfortable, and you don't like being uncomfortable. You’re boring but you’re fine with it.”
